CUbiC Wins Women & Philanthropy Grant for iCARE Initiative

The Center for Cognitive Ubiquitous Computing (CUbiC) received a $50,000 grant to support the iCARE project, which focuses on using information technology solutions to assist sight-impaired individuals carry out everyday activities and ensuring their access to educational opportunities.
The grant will support prototype development, recruitment of blind users, hardware and software purchases, disseminating program information and an assistantship for Greg Aikens, a master’s student in computer science.
The grant was awarded at the Women & Philanthropy’s annual celebration held April 13. CUbiC was one of six university programs to receive funding out of 23 applicants. The ASU Foundation’s Women & Philanthropy program prides itself on bringing together accomplished women to aid Arizona State University’s transformation into a New American University. Since their 2002 founding, members have provided more than half of a million dollars to support students and ASU enterprises.
