CUbiC members Michael J. Astrauskas and John Black presented the Note-Taker project at the 27th Annual International Technology and Persons with Disabilities Conference (CSUN 2012) in San Diego on Wednesday, February 29th to an audience of fifty, including academics, rehabilitation specialists, and individuals with visual impairments. The one-hour session consisted of a 20 minute presentation covering the motivation and evolution of the three generations of the Note-Taker, followed by a 40 minute period during which the audience could ask questions and take the third-generation Note-Taker for a test drive.
Attendees -- including both those with and without visual impairment -- loved the project, with some commenting they wished they had a Note-Taker during their time in school. Many also enjoyed seeing the evolution of the project, and seeing how students with visual impairments have always been involved. The presentation ended with several informal conversations between Michael, John, and some attendees, including an assistive technology specialist from the Arizona Department of Education and a researcher from the National Technical Institute for the Deaf, a college at Rochester Institute of Technology. The conference organizers are requesting a formatted copy of the team's conference submission for publication.
