iCare ReaderAbstract:
This paper outlines, in brief detail, the iReader research project at the Center for Cognitive Ubiquitous Computing at Arizona State University (ASU). The iReader project consists of three developmental phases. Phase 1 is aimed at developing a tabletop-based reader for deployment in libraries, schools, and postsecondary institutions. It allows people who are blind to easily read books and other printed materials. Phase 2 is aimed at developing a portable version of the iReader that is the size of a briefcase, and which can be used at home or carried to any other desired location by the user. Phase 3 is aimed at developing a wearable iReader device that permits the user to read print wherever they go, including textbooks, signage, restaurant menus, and vending machines.
